Kent women rack up dual Player of the Week honors in conference

Downey scores 10 goals and conference recognitions at Northwestern tourney
Forward Maggie Downey was named Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week after
recording 10 points on four goals and two assists at the Northwestern tournament.
The Flashes swept the round-robin tournament in Evanston, Ill. with wins over host Northwestern,
Dartmouth and Saint Louis.
Downey, a junior, is tied for third in the MAC with 12 points and is tied for second with four
assists.
She is also fourth in career assists with 20 and is tied for 10th in career goals with 19. This marks
the first time she has been awarded Player of the Week recognitions.
The Flashes, 4-1 on the year, climbed from 15th to 10th in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches
Association Division I National Poll. It is the highest Kent State field hockey program has ever been
ranked.
Kent will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to face 19th ranked College of William & Mary at 2 p.m.
Saturday. The Flashes will take on the hosting Wake Forest Demon Deacons at 2 p.m. Sunday.
