City council not being fair

Dear Editor,

Kent residents have not been given a fair opportunity to voice their opinions or have any questions answered concerning the Campus Link project because they weren’t treated honestly from the beginning.

If the invitations the residents received to the neighborhood meetings two years ago would have said, “Come to a neighborhood meeting where a plan to remodel your neighborhood and many other parts of the city will be unveiled,” the turnout at the meetings would have been greater than it was.

But it was not represented this way. The invitation we received seemed to be inviting us to a series of evening teas that would result in little more than discussions of traffic control, enforcing ordinances and such other moderate ideas, so not many residents attended.

As soon as the citizens of Kent realized what was going on, they came to a meeting at the fire station and asked plenty of questions, but the meeting was slated as an opportunity for council to listen to ideas about the plan, not answer any questions, so none of the citizens’ concerns could be answered that evening.

The residents of Kent have voiced their concerns, but theyhave been turned toward deaf ears.

It is clear that some residents are quite fearful of this project, but it also is clear that council is adamant that their meeting with the planning commission and the environmental commission (the meeting when supposedly the planning commission will either recommend or not recommend the plan to council) will come and go before they are willing to communicate with the residents. These are not the decisions of an ethical group of representatives. Shame on them!

Kerry-basher slams his ads

Dear Editor,

I am a good Republican. I work the Election Polls as a Republican judge whenever needed.

Personally, watching their campaign promos on TV with John Kerry, I don’t think they have a lot of positive to campaign with. Did you know his initials are JFK?

I attended college 1972-1976 at Ohio University, though I have no degree. I am disability retired. Watching both the campaign promos, I have noticed both candidates use the disclaimer, “I approve this message.” Except maybe it should be, “I’m John Kerry and I approve these lies!” Ha! Seems to me John Kerry is shadowing the same promises made by every Democrat since Jimmy Carter. Democrats keep believing the same lies!

When the Rudy Giuliani 9/11 Biography movie aired on TV, I taped it. In it, a reporter tried to NAIL Rudy by asking him about his party change from Democrat to Republican. Rudy merely stated, “One day I took a look at the Democrats. They only talk about doing great things . Then I looked at the Republicans and noticed they talk about doing great things — and do them!”

Some may call it muck-raking, but it is the TRUTH!

P.S. I approve this letter!
