All five of them have experienced success in their time at Kent State.

For Bryan Bedford, John Edwards and Eric Haut — the three who have played all four years in gold and blue — that has been four 20-win seasons, four Mid-American Conference East titles, two MAC Tournament Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

The last two are bound together because in the MAC, winning its tournament is seemingly the only way to advance and dance in the field of 65.

Humble senior, high priorities

Bedford just wants to win

No hype, just wins please.

That is all Bryan Bedford is about on the basketball court.

The 6-foot-4 senior forward was jokingly called “the backup center” by coach Jim Christian before the season started. That just illustrated what Bedford can do to help Kent State’s men’s basketball team win games. Post him up or stick him on the perimeter. He is to a basketball team what a utility man is to a baseball team. He can play at just about any position — except maybe point guard.

Flashes’ Shibata behind the scenes contributor

Points, rebounds, steals — words usually used to measure a basketball player’s success.

Selfless, smart, loyal — words used to measure Christi Shibata’s success.

During Shibata’s first two years on the Kent State women’s basketball team, Shibata started all but one game, was a demon defensively and a clutch shooter offensively, making the second-most 3-pointers in team history by a freshman in 2001.
